KEY AREAS OF FOCUS

Empowerment of disabled children, families and communities.

Empowering Disabled children, their families and communities to participate in the rehabilitation and fulfilment of disabled children's rights.

KCH's programmes focus on medical rehabilitation and provision of appliance through innovative community based approaches. We also promote children's right to quality education and offer livelihood programmes to enable disabled children and their families to live independent lives. Skills training and development and empowerment of families through psycho–social and nutritional support is an important element of the programme. Whereas focus is on disabled children, KCH also provides appliances to older people.

Orthopaedic, plastic and Neurological surgeries are done in collaboration with partner hospitals. Weekly or monthly reviews are done by the surgeons at KCH as disabled children undergo pre and post operative care in form physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, nursing care, nutritional therapy and orthopaedic therapy.

Disabled children often require an appliance or aid produced at the orthopaedic workshop.

In a bid to take services closer to the community as well as empower the family and community to participate in the rehabilitation process of the disabled child, KCH carries out Outreaches during which activities such as clinics, sensitization meetings and home visits are done.

Disability information and education.

Improving Knowledge, attitudes and practices on disability within the community including policy makers and service providers.
